On Sunday, May 31, 2026, we warmly invite you to Feldioara to join us for the “Whitsun Celebration”, an event organized by the Feldioara Town Hall and now in its 14th edition. First launched in 2011, alongside other initiatives dedicated to promoting the local heritage, traditions, and cultural values of Feldioara, the event continues to bring together different generations around a custom that has been joyfully preserved by the local community. Through this celebration, we aim to keep the spirit and identity of our village alive and to encourage younger generations to carry these traditions forward, ensuring they remain an important part of our community for years to come.
The “Beating of the May Trees” (“Bătutul armindenilor/armizinilor”), a tradition unique to Whitsun in Feldioara, is one of the area’s most cherished customs. The symbolic gesture of the young men placing birch trees in front of the homes of unmarried girls continues to move and inspire people today, while the involvement of the young men’s groups gives us confidence that this cultural heritage is being proudly and responsibly passed on. Our joy is even greater when we see more and more young people actively participating in the preparation and performance of the custom every year. More details about the “Beating of the May Trees” can be discovered throughout the month of June by visiting the temporary exhibition dedicated to the tradition at the Feldioara Fortress.
On Whitsun Day, we invite you to enjoy the traditional parade, the unique moments of the custom itself, brass band music, traditional circle dances, and the artistic program prepared for this year’s edition, featuring local groups, young talents, and special guests Cornelia and Lupu Rednic. The nearly 150 children who will take the stage to perform folk songs, play in the brass band, or dance give us hope that these local traditions will continue to thrive for generations to come.
We would like to thank everyone who contributes to preserving and promoting this beautiful local tradition, and we warmly welcome all lovers of authentic customs to join us in Feldioara!
