The fish returns to the waters of the Fagaras Country
Date and time
09 August - 09 August 2025, 11:00 - 22:00
Location
The Făgăraş Country MuseumAbout
We invite you on August 9, in the heart of Făgăraș Country, to the Făgăraș Fortress – recently included in a European top of the most spectacular medieval fortifications in Europe – for a day dedicated to the cultural, natural and intangible heritage of the region.
💧 On this day, we celebrate the living memory of the place and the deep connection between communities and water, through a program that revives an ancient craft and a special tradition: the construction and use of "cinuri", traditional boats. More than simple fishing or transportation tools, cinuri were once essential in connecting the Olt riverside communities and in the daily lives of people near the water.
🔴 An event dedicated to Ivan Patzaichin and his legacy
The Ivan Patzaichin Association returns to Făgăraș to symbolically rebuild a soul connection: between people, nature and water. Here, in a space full of history, we reactivate Ivan's memory and bring to attention the collaborations and events organized together in the past: a speed rowing competition, in teams, in 10+1 boats (canoes).
🦆 As part of the United Waters of Romania initiative, we inaugurate the Ivan Patzaichin Pontoon and launch a broad approach to reactivate the community's relationship with the Olt River, by developing slow tourism routes on the water, a cultural, tourist and memorial infrastructure inspired by Ivan's values: respect for nature, for traditions and for local identity.
🔴 The Făgăraș Country Museum becomes a space for living exploration of heritage
Along with the Făgăraș Country Museum "Valer Literat", we invite you to take up the oars and experience a unique way of visiting the waters of the Citadel - from a boat. The program includes demonstration workshops, friendly competitions on the water, exhibitions and a special concert held… at dinners.
☘️ Whether you have experience or not, your age or physical condition does not matter – we are waiting for you in the 10+1-seat canoes, for an adventure on the waters of the Citadel.
And if you do not row, you can enjoy a day in nature with us, among crafts, traditions and music – a celebration of water, community and living memory.

🛶 About CIN – the traditional boat of Olt
The "Cinul" is a traditional boat originally made from a single log of beech or oak wood, hollowed out and carved by hand. In the last 200 years, the cinul was made of fir planks with oak ribs and was between 4 and 6 meters long, being used mainly for fishing, but it was also occasionally used to transport people from one bank of the Olt to the other. It was maneuvered with a 4-5 m long pole, called "rud" or "pocie", when the water was low, or with a shovel when the Olt was high.
Access to the events is free, and for the opening of the "Cinul" workshop-exhibition, access is based on the Museum entrance ticket.
