Sighișoara kicks off the XXXI edition of the oldest and most authentic medieval festival in Romania

The Municipality of Sighișoara invites residents and tourists to participate, between July 24 and 26, 2026, in the XXXI edition of the "Sighișoara Medieval" Festival, the oldest and most authentic medieval festival in Romania.

For three days, the Sighișoara Medieval Citadel will host concerts, medieval combat demonstrations, music, medieval theater and dance, street entertainment and activities for all ages.

The main stage of the festival will be located in the Citadel Square, where concerts by Țăndărică & Keo & Alina, Trooper, as well as Mircea Baniciu, Florin Săsărman and Adrian Ivanițchi will take place, among others.

A novelty of this year's edition is the arrangement of the area dedicated to children in the vicinity of the Sighișoara City Hall. The space will host interactive activities and workshops, historical board games, theater and percussion performances, characters on stilts, living statues and jesters. All of these are specially designed for the little ones and for families who choose to spend the three days of the festival together.

On the streets and in the Citadel Square, the public will meet knights, ladies, minstrels, drummers and other characters who will be present in different areas of the Citadel during the three days of the festival. The program includes the Mercenaries of Asserculis, the Drummer of the Sighișoara Citadel, Silentium - the Bocter of the Citadel and its Guard, the Knights of the Forests, Christian and Toni Haiducu with their two horses, the Peregrins, the Ladies of the XXXI Seal, Funny Art, the United Guilds and the Dragon Company.

This year's edition also brings a premiere: medieval fighting demonstrations supported by Debreceni Történelmi Korok Hagyományőrző Egyesület from Hungary, a group participating for the first time in the "Sighișoara Medieval" Festival.

Also new for those who choose to come to the "Sighișoara Medieval" Festival is the gastronomic point in Piața Rățuștelor. Here we will have: a medieval picnic and tavern, as well as a local gastronomy workshop.

"Few events have the privilege of taking place in a place that tells part of the story itself. In Sighișoara we have a unique, authentic setting, and the festival capitalizes on this. That is why we focused on interactive experiences, on the presence of artists and characters throughout the Citadel and on activities that directly involve those who visit us", declared the mayor of Sighișoara, Ioan-Iulian Sîrbu.

The presenter of this edition will be Dan Negru.

Admission to the “Sighișoara Medieval” Festival is free.
