SlanăFest is a traditional gastro-cultural festival dedicated to bacon and pork dishes, organized annually during the winter in several localities in Romania and some regions of Transylvania. The event began as a celebration of traditional local products after the pig slaughtering and maturation season – an important moment for rural communities. The goal of the festival is to promote traditional gastronomic crafts, provide a platform for local producers to show their delights and strengthen the community through the joy of authentic taste.
In Şamşud, SlanăFest has already become a point of attraction, gathering thousands of visitors in an authentic setting on the “Aleea beciurilor” or “Aleea pivnițelor”, where smoked bacon, sausages, ham and other cold cuts are proudly presented by local farmers and homesteaders. The festival also includes a traditional culinary competition in several categories, folk music, wine and pălinca tastings, dancing and good cheer in the spirit of Sălăje traditions.
